Luckily, I have a few good local sources for grass-fed beef where I live and have not had to rely on internet sources for grass-fed meat. A few months ago a very kind reader of the blog used one of my Tropical Traditions referral links to purchase something and I received a gift certificate because they were a new customer to Tropical Traditions.
I have always wondered how ordering meat over the internet would work out. I figured this would be a great opportunity to order some grass-fed beef from Tropical Traditions, so I could let all of you in on the experience and of course and it would give me something to cook for the blog. Win-Win. I put that gift certificate towards the purchase of a rump roast.
When I opened the box, this is what I found. I actually went and got some pot holders to protect my hands.
But, I ended up not needing them as the dry ice had completely vaporized before I opened the box.
The box was lined in a cool insulating layer and cardboard. I'm actually keeping the box as it will be helpful the next time my mom visits from Houston and wants to take cold things home. I removed the roast from the box.
What a pretty roast. It was still pretty firmly frozen. It hadn't defrosted any more than say a frozen roast would on the way home from the grocery store. I put it in the freezer until I found the perfect recipe to blog.
I was very satisfied with my experience and the quality of the roast. I forgot to take a picture of it before I started seasoning it, but you can still see the rich red color of the roast that you'd expect from grass-fed beef.
What a pretty piece of meat! |
I've you've been curious about ordering meat from Tropical Traditions, I hope this helps you.
I used this roast in my Paleo Sauerbraten!
