Balsamic Glazed Steak Rolls from Picture the Recipe

A few weeks ago I noticed this awesome looking dish that created cute little meat and vegetable packages on Pinterest from a site called Picture the Recipe.  Officially, they are called Balsamic Glazed Steak Rolls.  I knew I had to test this recipe out!  I posted a teaser picture of these on the blog's facebook page and it got quite a positive response.  So now you will know whether or not they taste as good as they look, or at least my opinion.

Quest for Condiments: Worcestershire Sauce by Paleo Diet Lifestyle

As I look for recipes to try and blog, I don't restrict myself to paleo websites.  There are plenty healthy paleo or easily made paleo recipes on mainstream food sites.  Often, I've decided not to try a recipe because it calls for Worcestershire Sauce.  Lately, I've seen this condiment sneak into recipes found on "paleo" blogs.  Some varieties may be gluten free, but they pretty much all have molasses in them.  I hate to be the fun killer, but added sugars, even if they are natural sugars, are not paleo here at The Paleo Review.

Puttanesca Sauce from Food & Wine

One of the last products that I still routinely turn to store bought is tomato sauce.  There are a few good clean brands/varieties out there and well, I don't have endless hours to spend in the kitchen.  But do you need hours to make a great homemade sauce?  No you do not!  And really if I were to keep track of the amount of time I spend staring at the tomato sauce aisle reading ingredients, it makes better sense just to make the sauce myself.

When I made Sara Hatch's Chicken Puttanesca from her blog Edible I decided to make my own Puttanesca sauce.  The one I found was from Food & Wine and can be found here.  The only ingredient that needed to be omitted was sugar and well, that's no problem for me.

I gathered all of my ingredients and got started.  Sorry, I didn't take a picture of just the sauce ingredients when I made the Chicken Puttanesca, so this picture is the closest thing to it.

Chicken Puttanesa from Edible

I always appreciate it when readers leave comments or somehow interact with me on the blog's social media pages here or here.  Sara Hatch has been kind enough to leave some encouraging words and suggestions in the blog comments on various posts over the past few months.  Thank you Sara.  She has a blog entitled Edible where she talks about her food, some science, and posts a few recipes.  Did someone say recipes?  I decided to give her Chicken Puttanesca a try recently.

In the recipe, she uses a doctored up Trader Joe's Puttanesca sauce in her version.  I don't have a Trader Joe's near me yet, so I decided to make a sauce rather than stand in the grocery store staring at tomato sauce labels for a long while.  I searched the internet and decided to give this simple Puttanesca Sauce recipe a try.  The only ingredient that needed to be omitted was sugar and well, that's no problem for me.

I gathered all of my ingredients and started by preparing the sauce.

Cauliflower Wraps from Empowered Sustenance

About a month ago, I started seeing pins like this one all over my Pinterest feed.  Cauliflower tortillas?  Could this be true?   Gluten free, Grain-free, Nut-free, & dairy free tortillas?  Really?

The first version I found was at Slim Palate.  He mentions that Empowered Sustenance had posted a recipe for cauliflower tortillas before him. Her recipe is here and it is entitled, "the Original Cauliflower  Cauliflower Wrap."

Reuben in a Bowl from Heath-Bent

In March, I bought a corned beef brisket and I finally got around to cooking.  I knew I wanted to make it in the slow cooker, so I did some searching and came across this recipe from Martha Stewart.  I knew that I wouldn't be able to cook the cabbage as the recipe instructed because I wouldn't be home from work to add the vegetables to the cooker.  It must have been meant to be that I make the beef on the day that I did, as I came across a recipe from Health-Bent for Reuben in a Bowl that very afternoon.

The Health-Bent recipe has you cook your corned beef in the oven, but when I found this recipe, my brisket was already cooking away in my slow cooker. To do that really all I did was place the brisket in the slow cooker, covered it with the pickling spice that was included with the brisket, and added water until the brisket was nearly covered.  That's it.  I cooked it on low for 8 hours.   Here is the end result.  Its not terribly pretty on the outside, but once you cut into it, you see the pretty red of yummy corned beef.

Yummy corned beef!

Hatch Chili Meatballs from Three Diets. One Dinner.

A few weeks ago Brittanie from Three Diets. One Dinner. asked if I'd review one of her recipes.  Brave girl.  I asked her for suggestions and she recommended her Hatch Chili Meatballs.  My initial thought was that Hatch chilies aren't in season and won't be until August.  I did a little investigation and evidently you can buy them online, but they are a bit pricey.  Then I wondered if Hatch chilies are available in most of the country when they are in season.  Maybe not, so I decided I would make the recipe, but with a substitute pepper.  Anaheim peppers seem to be the most commonly recommended substitution for Hatch chilies, which evidently really don't exist anyway.

I gathered my ingredients and got to work.

The Paleo Review Lime Green Tea Spritzer

My air conditioning stopped working this past week.  Oh, the joys of home ownership.  I'm thankful that it happened now rather than in August, but it was still pretty darn hot in the house and I wanted something refreshing to drink, but not plain water.
I started out making a virgin Norcal Rita, but then decided a cold glass of green tea would be nice - and thus, the Paleo Review Lime Green Tea Spritzer was born.

The Best Way to cook Zucchini and Carrots from Voracious Vander

I came across this recipe  for "The Best Way to Cook Zucchini and Carrots" on Pinterest one day a few months ago.  As with many recipes on Pinterest, the picture was quite inviting but would it taste good and what's more would it be the "best way?"  Sprouts had some pretty organic zucchini the other day, so I knew it was time to review this recipe.

I gathered my ingredients and got to work.

Quest for Condiments: Paleo Ketchup: Recipe Adapted from Paleo Perfectly Sloppy Joes

When I made the Sloppy Joes from Paleo Perfectly, one of my first thoughts was how much like real ketchup the sauce tasted for that recipe.  I wondered if the entire cooking process contributed to that flavor or whether I could just take out the sauce ingredients, simmer them a bit and have a great "Heinz" tasting ketchup to end my quest for paleo ketchup all together.

Best Cauliflower Side Dish Ever from Stupid Easy Paleo

A few weeks ago, I saw this recipe from Stupid Easy Paleo for the "Best Cauliflower Side Dish Ever" that was posted Eat Smart Blog.  As you know, when I see a recipe named "best ever" it begs me to review it.   So here we go, is this the best ever cauliflower side dish?

First, I gathered my ingredients.
